Why build an indie streamer?
This website was born when we (the Cassidy brothers) were seeking to distribute our movie Childish Things. We had made it with our friends and whatever resources we had on hand, then worked with independent theaters to host community events and spread the word through local news and word of mouth.
We'd been mulling over how to put Childish Things online. After going the typical route of signing with a distributor for the last movie, Fallen Drive, we never saw a dime. We could've offered streaming through a platform like Filmhub or Amazon, but then some middleman would be taking a fat cut. It seemed like there was no favorable way for indie filmmakers to offer streaming to their audiences.
Our solution was to build our own streaming platform. By continuing to be independent (of big companies, we worked with Andrew at radi8.dev to develop this site), we retain the rights and control of Childish Things and (in theory) will see some return on the blood, sweat, and mileage we've poured into this project. When you rent or buy a movie here, you're directly supporting the people who made it.
The future of this platform
A rebrand is in order. This won't be watch.cassidy.pictures forever, but we wanted to launch quickly and upgrade the site as we see how people use it. Our expansion plans include introducing movies from other filmmakers, offering special features like you would find on DVDs, and building apps for mobile devices and smart TVs.
